SEO Tips for Attorneys

SEO Tip: Mirroring domains to try and gain an edge with search engines is a very bad idea. 'Nuff said.

Questions You Should Ask a Link Development Company Before You Hire Them

Caution: If the person / company you hire to get inbound links gets you bad ones, you will be doing more harm than good. The number of links to site is not nearly as important as the quality and source of the links -- and according to Google, how you get your links.

How many links will you get for me each month? (Note: The more links someone promises you, the more suspicious you should be of the company. Anyone that promises more than 5-10 links per month is not someone who is getting you great links -- and search engines can become suspicious when inbound links are built up too quickly.)

Do you, or a subsidiary company, or company you have partnered with control the websites where you will get me links from?

Will you outsource link building or is it done in-house?

Do you contact other website owners, post in forums, blogs, etc. and pretend you are from our company?

Do you actually participate in online communities on a regular basis or create accounts just to post links?

Do you count vanity sites where anyone can publish their own links as "trusted and valued" links?

Where and how will you get links for me - and what pages will you be linking to?

Do you count links with the "no follow" robot commands as links? (Note: These links will never be picked up by search engines and no follow commands are almost always automatically imbedded now in forums, newsgroups, and blogs.)

Link Development and Social Networking Services

Link Development: Why We Want You to Learn to do it for Yourself

We consider link development and social networking an important part of growing your website and you business. But because social networking and building links the right way is so important, we actually recommend that you let us train you how to do it for yourself. You will save a lot of money and have total control over the links and networks you choose to develop. Even if you do not want to do it, and you insist on hiring someone, take our free courses so you will at least know how to spot a scam artist.

Why We do not Offer Pay-for-Links Services

Simple. Google frowns on it. If you get caught your site will be penalized or banned. Link development - done the right way, is very labor intensive. It involves contacting website owners "begging" for links. It involves finding public forums, message boards, and social media places to join, get social, and then sneak in a link -- hoping it will not have the dreaded "no follow" command embedded (something most social sites now do automatically to thwart spammers.)

Simply put, we do not have the time or cheap labor to do this right. A legitimate link builder is someone who spends time creating relations online and networking on your behalf - not simply posting links here and there. And, it should cost you $30 to $75 per link.

We cannot compete, nor do we wish to, with companies that outsource link development to foreign workers who work for pennies to get you spammy links.

What we can do for you is write the best content possible - content people will naturally want to link to. This is known as getting "organic" links and it is hands down the best and safest way to get inbound links. And, we can SEO your website so people will find it in search engines (if they do not find it, they cannot link to it!)

Do-it-Yourself Social Networking

Many social networks can now be set up to automatically do things like send out Tweets and blog posts. These features are fairly fast and easy to set up and very low maintenance. You do not need to pay someone to do this for you -- you can use free services to do it for yourself. Honestly, if you really want to pay someone hire your kid or the teenager next door. They work cheaper, are probably more honest, and will care more about your business than some large link building company.

If you want the most bang for your hard earned bucks - hire someone to write quality content for your social sites and website. Linkable content is the best way to build an inbound link portfolio.

Link Building Scams Galore!

We cannot caution you strongly enough about the number of disreputable link building companies on the web. They charge a small fortune to get you linked in vanity sites search engines disregard, and even get you banned from forums when these link companies spam in your name. And, for the record, Google publicly states that paying for links outside their Quality Guidelines. If Google figures out you are buying links, they will devalue them. Google favors sites that get organic links. Period.

If you do hire a link development company be sure to ask the questions on the right hand side. Getting the wrong links is far worse than having few or no inbound links to your website.

We will tell you how to work on building quality, inbound links to your website through appropriate directory submissions and by frequenting blogs and forums related to your industry. You can solicit other website owners and ask for links -- but be selective and there are some guidelines for doing this (Google also frowns on link exchanges.)

Focus on quality - not on creating an inbound link farm. Do not pay for links or use reciprocal link exchanges to build your website.
